Carmen Armbruster fuses Vienna and Formentera in new exhibition 'Escala Viena Connection'

The Office of Culture of the Consell de Formentera is pleased to report that 12–24 June, the "Ajuntament Vell" exhibition space will host "Escala Viena Connection", a group exhibition organised and promoted by the artist Carmen Armbruster.

The display will bring together the works of artists from various countries who coincided in Vienna and worked together in a range of forms, from painting and illustrations to sculpture, installation and audiovisual projections. As Armbruster explains, since then, several members of the group "had the opportunity to visit Formentera and wanted to share their visions of the island through this art exhibition."

Armbruster revisits the photographic project of a small installation she crafted in 2002, and adds sound elements to enrich the visual experience. "Escala Viena Connection" will feature a special projection to complement the works of the participating artists. Armbruster describes the central idea of the exhibition with the Catalan and Spanish word escala, meaning "ladder," or, as the artist sees it, "as a dock of embarkation; a point of departure on, or arrival from, a journey." In the two languages, the word also evokes the idea of a layover, or stop on a journey, and refers to Armbruster's own trip to Vienna, where she had the chance to coincide with this group of artists.

The exhibition will open Monday 12 June at 8.00pm and can be visited at "Ajuntament Vell" exhibition space Tuesday to Saturday, 11.00am to 2.00pm and 7.00pm to 9.00pm.
